Sustainable Gaming Standards

Addressing the Sustainability of the Gaming Industry

Leonardo Academy, a non-profit dedicated towards advancing sustainability, and Eric Hansel of EGM Green, a green gaming equipment and advisory company are guiding efforts to design a set of Sustainable Gaming Standards according to the American National Standards Institute’s protocol. ISOS Group was recently notified of its acceptance after submitting a proposal to serve on the standards development committee in February. The committee representing diverse backgrounds and experiences will be charged with developing a comprehensive framework and common set of sustainability metrics to assess the environmental, social, and economic performance of the gaming industry. Slot machines will be the focus of the first phase since they are a tangible product from which to start from, while other aspects of the gaming industry are slated for future activities. The first phase is tentatively scheduled for completion in September 2009.
